GINGOOG City Mayor Erick G. Cañosa has called on the management of Sishin Enterprises, a sawmill and exporter located in Barangay Agay-ayan, to comply immediately with the fire code and other requirements for the issuance of a full business permit.
The mayor’s statement follows revelations that the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Gingoog City issued two cease and desist orders (CDOs) against the sawmill in 2024 and 2025 for alleged violations of the fire code.
Despite these CDOs, the company was still able to obtain a business permit, allowing operations to continue.
BPLO Head Juliet Garrido explained that her office issued the permit after Sishin Enterprises executed an affidavit of undertaking.
Garrido said the Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO) granted a three-month business permit on the condition that the company ensures compliance with all requirements.
She added that the affidavit prevented the company’s closure based on the BFP’s order, which was a relief to its workers.
Cañosa, despite his call for compliance, also wants the issue to be “given due attention and investigated.”
The mayor pointed out the urgency of the situation, saying he hopes the company will resolve the matter as soon as possible.
He noted that many stakeholders would be affected if the company closes, including workers, suppliers, small businesses in the area, and the city’s revenue collection.
