THE province of Bukidnon showcased Mindanao’s stability and vibrant hospitality this week as it hosted 16 candidates of Miss Earth 2024, parading them through the streets of Libona in a motorcade led by local officials.
The delegates, including Miss Korea, Kenya, Belize, Dominican Republic, Canada, England, Myanmar, Serbia, New Zealand, South Africa, Venezuela, Algeria, Sri Lanka, Russia, and Norway, spent three days exploring the province as part of their Philippine tour for this year’s competition.
Among them, England’s Brooke Nichola Smith, who champions environmental health and education for women and children, expressed her admiration for the cultural richness of Libona.
“The town’s traditions offer great insights for my advocacy,” Smith said, hoping to inspire young students on her journey.
The visit was organized by Bukidnon’s 1st District Representative Joeman Alba, who saw the event as a way to promote the province and the broader region.
“How do you capture the imagination of every Filipino? Bring Miss Earth here,” Alba said, emphasizing that Libona’s picturesque barangays, including Gango, Kiliog, and Kinawe, rival international landscapes.
“These areas are blooming with small businesses and new job opportunities,” he added.
Libona’s Mayor Aurelio Lopez also highlighted the impact of the delegates’ visit on local tourism, noting ongoing efforts to develop natural attractions like the town’s view decks and Bubunawaan River.
“Tourism stakeholders are working together to bring out the best in Libona,” Lopez said, hoping to create a sustainable boost for the local economy.
The delegates, part of the Air Group in this year’s Miss Earth pageant, departed for Manila on Sunday ahead of the competition’s coronation night at Okada Manila on November 9.
