THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 10 reports significant progress on the detour road project near the damaged Cagayan de Oro-Bukidnon-Davao highway, with construction now 65% complete.
The four-lane alternate route in Sitio Kipolot, Barangay Palacapao, Quezon, Bukidnon, is set to open by the first or second week of January 2026.
“Currently, our engineers are finalizing the road surface grade. By January, only minor activities will remain to complete the project,” said DPWH-10 Information Officer Novie Cabrido.
The detour was ordered by DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon following the October 18 collapse of a critical highway section in Quezon town due to heavy rains.
At the close of 2025, the economic losses of the road closure would balloon to P14 billion, which is equivalent to 1.1 percent of Northern Mindanao’s Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), according to Department of Economy, Planning and Development (DEPDev-10) Director Mylah Faye Aurora Cariño.
The P46.6 million detour project, funded via the DPWH Quick Response Fund, aims to alleviate burdens on truckers and vehicle owners.
“Our engineers were given 45 days to complete this to ease traffic disruptions,” Cabrido stated.
While the road is not yet cemented, officials assure heavy trucks can safely pass through.
Concreting funds are pending approval from the DPWH central office in Manila.
