ILIGAN CITY — Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr. expressed condolences to the families of four soldiers killed in a recent ambush in Munai, Lanao del Norte.
Brawner conveyed the AFP's deepest sympathies and paid tribute to the fallen soldiers for their sacrifice. He assured the families of continued support and assistance from the government and AFP.
"We are here to express our condolences and assess what happened, identify areas for improvement, and prevent similar incidents in the future," Brawner said.
The Chief of Staff directed commanders to review operational lapses and address them immediately.
He reiterated his directive to defeat armed groups and lawless elements by 2026.

The soldiers killed were identified as Staff Sergeant Diosito A. Araya, Sergeant Gilbert P. Arnoza, Sergeant Junel P. Calgas, and Private Sean Mark Laniton.
They were ambushed by over ten armed men believed to be Dawlah Islamiyah-Maute Group members.
Brawner visited the lone survivor, Corporal Rollen Dela Cruz, to express support.
The AFP continues its investigation and assures the public that perpetrators will be held accountable.
The fallen soldiers will be remembered for their service and sacrifice.
Sergeant Junel Calgas' wife, Michelle, described him as a responsible, loving husband and father.
