Bitget, a leading global cryptocurrency exchange and Web3 company, has launched the Bitget Starlink Program, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at bridging the digital divide in remote island communities in the Philippines. The program’s pilot phase has begun in Siargao, bringing high-speed satellite internet to Espoir School of Life and Barangay Pitogo–two communities long affected by limited connectivity.
For years, residents in these areas have depended on unstable microwave radio signals, leading to slow speeds, frequent outages, and a lack of access to essential digital services. Schools like Espoir, which serves underprivileged children, have operated with offline-only educational materials, while entire villages such as Barangay Pitogo remain digitally isolated.
“This isn’t just about connectivity–it’s about equity,” said Vugar Usi Zade, COO of Bitget. “Without stable internet, communities are excluded from modern education, healthcare, remote work, and financial opportunities. Internet access should be a basic right not a privilege. We’re building bridges to the digital world–one island at a time.”
Transforming Access Through Starlink
The Starlink Program’s first phase includes the installation of satellite internet at Espoir School and the public school in Barangay Pitogo, delivering reliable connectivity for at least six months. This upgrade will enable:
- Access to online curricula and learning platforms
- Remote teacher training
- Telemedicine and e-governance tools
- Future blockchain education workshops
Bitget has invested P155,400.00 (approx. US$2,700) in this initial deployment, covering Starlink hardware, subscriptions, and logistics–a modest cost for what could be a transformative change.
Blockchain Literacy and Financial Inclusion to Follow
Beyond connectivity, Bitget is laying the groundwork for long-term digital empowerment through its $10 million Blockchain4Youth and $10 million Blockchain$Her initiatives. These programs aim to introduce blockchain literacy and financial education to students and women-led cooperatives in underserved regions.
A Replicable Model for Broader Impact
Bitget’s approach is gaining attention as a replicable model for how the crypto and Web3 sectors can lead real-world change. By focusing on digital infrastructure first, the initiative addresses the root challenges of adoption in emerging markets.
The Starlink kits in Siargao will go live this May, with Bitget set to share impact reports and community stories as the program progresses.
