Residents of Barangay Besigan may soon need to make changes at home and in schools after the City Council’s Committee on Barangay Affairs approved two proposed ordinances aimed at improving sanitation and creating healthier school environments.
One proposed measure would require every household in Barangay Besigan to have its own comfort room.
If the ordinance completes the legislative process and takes effect, families without toilet facilities may need to build one to comply with barangay requirements.
Households that already have comfort rooms are not expected to be significantly affected.
Another proposed ordinance would prohibit alcohol consumption and smoking within school premises.
If enacted, the ban would apply not only to students but also to parents, teachers, school personnel, visitors, and anyone entering school grounds.
Schools would also be expected to strengthen enforcement to ensure compliance.
The two measures were among the 11 barangay ordinances approved by the 21st City Council’s Committee on Barangay Affairs during its July 1 hearing, according to the Cagayan de Oro City Information Office.
Chaired by Liga ng mga Barangay President and Councilor Marlo Tabac, the committee reviewed proposed ordinances from several barangays, with some measures still requiring minor revisions before advancing through the legislative process.
