CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Backed by around 15,000 supporters, the Bangsamoro Federalist Party (BFP) on Tuesday formally joined the region’s historic first parliamentary elections after filing its registration petition with the Commission on Elections–BARMM.
The large turnout underscored the party’s growing support base across the Bangsamoro region.
Party officials said several mayors and local leaders have already aligned with the BFP, boosting its political footing ahead of the 2026 polls.
The filing followed the party’s April 2 general assembly in Davao City, where members elected Member of Parliament Dr. Tomanda Antok as party president.

BFP leaders said the party aims to serve as a unifying political force, drawing members from local governments, revolutionary groups, women’s organizations, settlers, the ulama, and non-Moro Indigenous peoples.
Its platform centers on federalism, stronger regional autonomy, fair resource distribution, and improved local governance.
The party also reaffirmed its support for the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro, which it described as a key foundation for sustaining peace between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.
In a news conference, Antok said the BFP will push for peace, development, and unity in the region.
The upcoming elections will mark a major milestone in the peace process as the Bangsamoro transitions from the interim Bangsamoro Transition Authority to a fully elected autonomous parliament.
