THE Philippine Army’s 8th Infantry Battalion, led by Lt. Col. Jeorge R. Jallorina, strengthened its support for education through an Adopt-a-School program launched in Barangay Bontongan during the 64th Araw ng Bontongan celebration on Oct. 21.
In partnership with the local government of Impasug-ong and Bontongan Elementary School, the battalion signed a memorandum of partnership and broke ground for the construction of a new classroom.
According to the Army, the initiative responds to the community’s long-standing shortage of classrooms. Some students in grades 9 to 12 reportedly walk six to seven hours daily to reach the nearest high school, while others are forced to stop studying due to financial difficulties.
“Nasurpresa kita kay daghan kaayong partners nga andam motabang. Usa lang gyud ang atong gibuhat — ang pag-una sa paglihok — ug ang uban misunod sa pagtabang alang sa kabataan,” Jallorina said, expressing gratitude for the community’s support.
Also held that day was a Serbisyo Caravan led by the Impasug-ong local government, joined by the Camp Evangelista Station Hospital and the 1364th Dental Detachment.
Brigadier Gen. Siegfred C. Tubalado, commander of the 403rd Brigade, and Lt. Col. Arnold M. Bautista, commander of the 88th Infantry Battalion, participated in the event.
The 8th Infantry Battalion continues to promote education, community development, and peace in remote areas of Bukidnon, believing that access to education is among the greatest investments in the nation’s future.
Among those present were Impasug-ong Mayor Mai Okinlay, Bontongan Elementary School head Lou Dupeno, and members of the Bontongan Barangay Council.
