MARAWI City — Residents of Lanao del Sur can expect not only colorful cultural performances but also easier access to government services as the province marks its 67th Araw ng Lanao del Sur with the month-long Pakaradiyaan o Sarimanok 2026 celebration.

The festivities officially opened on July 4 at the Capitol Gymnasium under the theme, "A Festivity of Heritage, Culture and Progress." 

This year's celebration combines cultural events with service caravans, health missions and livelihood activities aimed at benefiting communities across the province.

One of the main attractions is the Ranaw Heritage Village, where municipalities showcase local products, traditional crafts, agricultural produce and Maranao culture. 

The exhibit also promotes tourism while helping local entrepreneurs and artisans reach more visitors.

Residents can also avail themselves of government services scheduled throughout the month, including medical, dental and optical missions, cash assistance, a Solo Parent Service Caravan, and Lanao Serbisyo Day, which brings multiple government agencies closer to communities.

The celebration will also feature Qur'an memorization and recitation competitions, Arabic writing contests, and other faith-based activities that promote Islamic values and preserve Maranao traditions.

Visitors can look forward to the Ranao Culinary Food Festival, Ranao Street Dance Showdown, Weaves of the Lake, Ranao Fashion Show, and other cultural events highlighting the province's rich heritage.

Beyond the festivities, organizers have lined up programs on environmental protection, agriculture, health, tourism, women's empowerment and community development, including tree-planting activities and public awareness campaigns.

Governor Mamintal "Bombit" Alonto Adiong Jr. said the celebration is more than an anniversary—it is a chance for Maranaos to celebrate their identity while promoting peace, unity and development.

BARMM Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua also emphasized Lanao del Sur's important role in the Bangsamoro region, saying the province's progress is vital to the future of the Bangsamoro.

The annual Pakaradiyaan o Sarimanok commemorates the creation of Lanao del Sur as a separate province on July 4, 1959, under Republic Act No. 2228, which divided the former Province of Lanao into Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur.
