SEVERAL human rights groups led by Gitib, Inc., Philippine Alliance for Human Rights Advocates, and Task Force Detainees of the Philippines held a Mindanao-wide Human Rights Day Commemoration via Zoom and Facebook Live today.
The activity’s thrust was to highlight Mindanao’s human rights, as well as the economic and socio-political situation.
There were renewed calls for the current administration to address human rights violations against indigenous peoples, Bangsamoro, and the poor across Mindanao, considered as among the long-suffering sector of Philippine society.
There were song performances by the participants, and also a video presentation on Mindanao power rate action-economic rights presented by Sanlakas Mindanao.
Climate defender group Youth for Climate Justice, with participants from different chapters in Mindanao, also renewed calls for human rights for victims of ever-increasing severe natural calamities brought about by storm events.
The activity culminated with a candle-lighting ceremony, in memoriam for the victims of human rights abuses.
