ILIGAN City — As a precaution against possible landslides caused by continuous rainfall, the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (BDRRM) Office of Barangay Suarez carried out a preemptive evacuation around midnight, Nov. 4.

The area has been identified as landslide-prone, prompting barangay officials to act quickly to ensure residents’ safety.

Four families — composed of nine adults, nine children and one senior citizen — were evacuated and are now temporarily staying at the BDRRM office, which has been designated as an evacuation center.

The evacuees have been provided with food and other basic necessities.

Barangay officials, together with the Iligan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (ICDRRMO), continue to monitor soil conditions and weather updates. Assessments are ongoing to determine when it will be safe for residents to return home.

Authorities have also advised residents in nearby high-risk areas to remain alert and follow evacuation advisories if conditions worsen.

The preemptive measure is part of the city government’s continuing efforts to prioritize public safety amid the threats posed by Tropical Storm Tino.
