CAPITOL sports uncovered the abundance of young and budding hoop talents in Balingasag during the town’s staging of a 3-on-3 basketball tournament on Saturday, January 20 at Linggangao covered courts in Balingasag, Misamis Oriental.
“Talents are abound. Kusog kaayo manglayat and aduna na sab silay basic. With the right program, pwede kaayo ‘ning mga bata puhon sa Batang Pinoy,” Capitol sports overseer Chrysostom ‘Tammy’ Cailing told Gold Star Daily.
The town’s different barangays such as Cogon, Baliwagan, Dansuli, Mambayaan, Talusan, Blanco, Linabu, San Isidro, Napaliran, Mandangoa, Rosario, Dumarait, Binitinan, Barangays 1, 2, 3, 6 and host Linggangao have participated in the 2024 Paglaum Cup 3-on-3 Basketball Festival among the sporting events that highlighted the fiesta celebration of Balingasag in honor of its Patron Saint, Santo Niño.
Featured in the exciting street-like hoopfest with juicy cash prizes compensating the top performing teams are the 13-under, 15-under, 18-under, 21-under, and the special ladies category.
In the nightcap for the two most-awaited championship games, Barangay 3 crushed Barangay 1 with the score of 21 against nine for the 18-under plum.
This, as Barangay Mangdangwa nosed out Barangay Blanco, eight-six for the premier 21-under title.
Barangay sports organizer Vincent Jo and former Balingasag mayoral candidate Alvin Edades joined Cailing and the personnel of Mindrecom Balingasag in presiding over the giving of cash prizes, trophies, and medals to the winners.
“Productive events like this should be sustained to further develop our promising athletes in the province,” Cailing said.
