ILIGAN CITY — Government troops dealt a massive blow to local terror remnants on March 11, seizing a staggering cache of 295 hand grenades hidden in Barangay Piagolongan. The discovery, credited to the 55th Infantry Battalion, effectively strips the Daulah Islamiya–Maute Group of a significant portion of its deadly arsenal.
Personnel from the Army's 55th Infantry Battalion under the 103rd Infantry Brigade, in coordination with the 64th Infantry Battalion of the 101st Infantry Brigade, both operating under Joint Task Force ZAMPELAN of the 1st Infantry Division, uncovered 295 hand grenades from the site.
The recovery represents a major setback to the operational capabilities of threat groups in the province.
Authorities noted that removing the explosives from circulation helps prevent potential attacks and enhances the safety of local communities.
Military officials also highlighted the vital role of residents, whose timely information and cooperation contributed to the successful operation, signaling growing community support for peace and security in Lanao del Sur.
Maj. Gen. Yegor Rey P. Barroquillo Jr., commander of the 1st Infantry Division, praised both the troops and the community, stressing that successful operations of this scale rely on strong collaboration between the military and the public.
The mission also demonstrated effective coordination between JTG Haribon and JTG Three Red Arrows, reflecting the seamless synergy across joint task groups during high-priority operations.
