KINOGUITAN, Misamis Oriental — Thirteen senior citizens received P10,000 each in cash gifts on Friday morning, Oct. 17, as part of the government’s Expanded Centenarians Program.
According to Town Councilor Lilibeth Magno-Lagbas, chairperson of Gender Development, Persons With Disability, Family and Senior Citizens of the Sangguniang Bayan, the beneficiaries included 11 octogenarians aged 80 to 85 and two nonagenarians aged 90 to 95.
“The distribution of cash gifts worth P10,000 each to octogenarians and nonagenarians is an initiative under the Expanded Centenarians Program conducted by the Municipal Social Welfare and Development (MSWD) in the town,” Lagbas said in a message.
The program follows the implementation of Republic Act No. 11982, or the Expanded Centenarians Act of 2024, which grants incentives to senior citizens reaching milestone ages of 80, 85, 90, 95, and 100 years and older.
The new law amends Republic Act No. 10868, or the Centenarians Act of 2016, which previously allowed only those aged 100 and above to receive P100,000.
“The current law provides cash gifts for senior citizens aged 80 to 85 and 90 to 95, also called octogenarians and nonagenarians, respectively, who will receive P10,000 each,” Lagbas said.
Under the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., around P2.9 billion has been allocated in 2025 to support 275,000 senior citizens nationwide.
In Kinoguitan alone, there are 1,158 registered social pensioners, according to Lagbas.
