ILIGAN CITY — Government security forces killed 10 members of the Dawlah Islamiya–Maute Group (DI-MG), including a senior leader, in a joint law enforcement operation in Lanao del Sur on April 17, 2026.
The operation was led by the Army's 103rd Infantry Brigade under the 1st Infantry Division, in coordination with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, Regional Special Operations Team, and BARMM authorities.
Military officials linked the neutralized fighters to a string of violent incidents, including the January 23 ambush in Munai, Lanao del Norte, which killed four soldiers and wounded another.
The government side reported no casualties.
Troops recovered firearms, an explosive device, and improvised explosive components at the encounter site. Security forces found and rescued an infant during the operation, quickly administering medical aid.
Brigadier Gen. Billy Dela Rosa, commander of the 103rd Brigade, said the operation dealt a significant blow to the group and highlighted the effectiveness of inter-agency coordination.
“This victory reflects the courage of our troops and the strength of our joint efforts to protect communities,” he said.
Major Gen. Yegor Rey P. Barroquillo Jr., commander of the 1st Infantry Division, described the operation as a major step in the campaign against terrorism in Lanao, citing the group’s role in past attacks, including the Marawi siege.
Authorities said sustained operations will continue to prevent the resurgence of extremist groups and secure vulnerable communities across Mindanao.
